Do you ever have one of those days where you’re juggling a million things and the idea of cooking dinner feels impossible? That was me last week. Between work, kids, and trying to remember if I paid the electric bill (spoiler: I hadn’t), the last thing I wanted to do was spend hours in the kitchen. But then I remembered this Crock Pot Sirloin Steak recipe.

I’d first tried it a few years ago after my mom gave me one of those looks—you know the one—when I admitted I barely used my slow cooker. She swore this recipe would change my life, and honestly? She wasn’t wrong. The first time I made it, I couldn’t believe how easy it was. Just toss everything in, let it do its thing, and bam—dinner that tastes like you’ve been slaving over the stove.

Now, it’s my little secret weapon. Whenever life feels overwhelming, I know I can count on this recipe to deliver. It’s like a warm hug, but on a plate. And the best part? It makes my kitchen smell amazing, so I look like I’ve been working hard—even if I’ve been binge-watching shows on the couch all day.

Why You’ll Love This Crock Pot Sirloin Steak Recipe?

  • Ridiculously Easy: Seriously, it’s almost unfair how little effort this takes. Five minutes of prep, and you’re done.
  • Rich and Savory: The combo of gravy, au jus, and ranch seasoning creates a sauce that’s so good, you’ll want to drink it. (No judgment if you do.)
  • Tender Steak, Every Time: Even tougher cuts like London broil become melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
  • Perfect for Busy Days: Whether you’re working, running errands, or just want to take it easy, this recipe fits the bill.
  • Pairs with Everything: Mashed potatoes, rice, pasta—you name it, this steak makes it better.

Ingredient Notes:

This recipe keeps it simple but delivers big on flavor. Here’s what makes it work:

  • Top Sirloin Steak: Lean, flavorful, and perfect for slow cooking. If you don’t have sirloin, try chuck steak or London broil—they’re just as good.
  • Brown Gravy Mix: Adds a rich, hearty base to the sauce. Think of it as the MVP of flavor.
  • Au Jus Mix: This is what gives the sauce its deep, savory kick.
  • Ranch Seasoning: A little tangy, a little herby—it’s the secret ingredient you didn’t know you needed.
  • Water: It may seem basic, but it ties everything together and ensures the steak stays juicy.

How To Make Crock Pot Sirloin Steak?

Let’s break this down into super simple steps. Ready?

Step 1. Layer the Steak
Start by slicing your sirloin steak into thin strips—don’t overthink it, just aim for even-ish pieces. Lay them out in the bottom of your crockpot. This gives them plenty of room to soak up all the flavors.

Step 2. Add the Seasonings
Sprinkle the brown gravy mix, au jus mix, and ranch seasoning evenly over the meat. No fancy techniques here—just dump and go. Trust me, it’ll all come together beautifully.

Step 3. Pour the Water
Next, pour in 2½ cups of water. Grab a spoon and give everything a gentle stir to coat the meat. At this point, it’ll look like a soupy mess, but don’t worry—it’ll turn into magic after a few hours.

Step 4. Let the Crockpot Work Its Magic
Set your crockpot to low and let it cook for 8–10 hours. If you’re short on time, high for 4–5 hours works too. Stir occasionally if you think of it, but if not, no big deal. The slow cooker is pretty forgiving.

Step 5. Serve It Up
When the time’s up, give the steak and sauce one last stir. Then, spoon it over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta. Don’t skimp on the sauce—it’s liquid gold.

Storage Options:

Got leftovers? (Although, let’s be real, you might not.) Here’s how to keep them:

  • Refrigerator: Store the steak and sauce in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water or broth to loosen the sauce.
  • Freezer: Freeze cooled leftovers in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat, thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat.

Variations and Substitutions:

This recipe is super adaptable, so feel free to make it your own. Here are some ideas:

  • Different Cuts: Chuck roast, pork shoulder, or even chicken thighs work well.
  • Seasoning Swaps: No ranch seasoning? Use Italian dressing mix or add garlic powder and paprika.
  • Extra Veggies: Throw in some sliced onions, mushrooms, or carrots for a complete one-pot meal.
  • Spicy Twist: Add red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce for a little heat.

What to Serve with Crock Pot Sirloin Steak?

This dish is a crowd-pleaser on its own, but it’s even better with the right sides. Here are a few ideas:

  • Mashed Potatoes: Creamy and buttery—perfect for soaking up the sauce.
  • Rice: White, brown, or even wild rice pairs beautifully.
  • Pasta: Wide noodles like pappardelle or egg noodles work especially well.
  • Roasted Veggies: Green beans, broccoli, or carrots add a fresh, crunchy contrast.
  • Crusty Bread: Because you’ll want to mop up every last drop of sauce.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use a different cut of meat?

Absolutely! Chuck roast, round steak, or even pork loin are great options. Just slice them thin for even cooking.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Totally. It’s even better the next day as the flavors have more time to meld. Store it in the fridge and reheat when ready.

What if I don’t have a crockpot?

No worries! Use a Dutch oven and cook it in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 3–4 hours. It’ll still turn out tender and delicious.

8 Servings

  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 packet au jus mix
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning
  • 2 ½ cups water

Instructions

Prepare the Crock Pot

  1. Slice the sirloin steak into thin strips and place them in an even layer at the bottom of the crock pot. Ensure the pieces are not overlapping excessively for even cooking.

Add the Seasonings

Add the Water

  1. Pour 2 ½ cups of water into the crock pot. Use a spoon or spatula to gently stir, ensuring the seasonings dissolve and evenly coat the steak.

Set the Cooking Time

  1. Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on low for 8–10 hours or on high for 4–5 hours. During cooking, stir occasionally if possible to distribute the flavors evenly.

Serve

  1. Once the steak is tender and infused with the rich sauce, serve it hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta. Ensure each serving is generously drizzled with the flavorful sauce from the crock pot.

I made this recipe today. It is super easy. The only thing I find I don’t like is it’s really salty. Other than that, the meat comes out so tender you don’t need a knife to cut it. I served mine with egg noodles. Next time, and there will be a next time, I’ll serve it with rice or potatoes. Also, I’ll look for low sodium options.
