French Onion Chicken Bake

Simple chicken dinners are my favorite, especially when they are made into casseroles.

These chicken casseroles are not only true comfort food, but they also blend in so well with the hectic daily schedule.

And this French Onion Chicken Bake is excellent for the fall.

However, I just made this on a cool, rainy summer day. And it was exactly what was needed to dispel the melancholy.

The chicken breasts from this recipe turned out perfectly juicy and tender and were topped with caramelized onions. And covered in glorious melted cheese.

This French Onion Chicken Bake is one of my favorite recipes with a taste that is very distinctive and flavorful.

The best part is that this goes well with almost any side dish, including salad, honey-glazed carrots, and oven-roasted red potatoes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can you make caramelized onions even better?

onion chicken bake

Caramelized onions provide a delicious buttery flavor to the dish, and regular sliced onions just won’t do. How to make them fantastic:

Sauté the onions in butter until they are transparent and soft. They are done cooking when they are pliable, see-through, and have developed a light brown color.

Beef Broth and Balsamic Vinegar: Adding beef broth and balsamic vinegar not only provides flavor but also keeps the onions from drying out while cooking. It’s possible to use chicken broth for beef, but I like to use beef.

Garlic and Spices: Sweet with jam-like consistency are the result of adding garlic and spices. When stirring, be sure to get all of the browned pieces from the onions.

What should I serve alongside French Onion Chicken Bake?

This simple supper meal has a unique and distinct flavor, similar to the greatest French onion soup flavor.

Best of all, you can pair it with almost any side dish, such as a tossed green salad, Glazed Carrots, or Oven Roasted Potatoes.

This chicken dish pairs perfectly with these Roasted Parmesan Green Beans.

Of course, this chicken meal goes well with white wine.

How to Store?

Refrigerate leftover chicken in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap for up to 5 days.

I like to reheat it in a microwave-safe container, but you can also bake it in the oven to thoroughly warm it.
