There are two things I will never say no to—pecan pie and a good splash of bourbon. So naturally, this Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie is right up my alley.

I remember the first time I made this pie. It was one of those last-minute, panic-mode holiday moments when you realize you were supposed to bring dessert, and—oops—you totally forgot. I had all the usual pecan pie ingredients, but I also had a bottle of bourbon from a recent trip to Kentucky and half a bag of chocolate chips sitting on the counter (probably from some cookies I never got around to making). So, I did what any dessert-loving, slightly desperate person would do—I threw them into the mix and hoped for the best.

And let me tell you… best mistake ever.

The bourbon adds this deep, warm flavor that takes the pie from good to incredible, and the chocolate? It melts into the filling, giving it the most decadent, silky texture. Now, I make this pie on purpose every holiday season (and sometimes when I just need a little comfort food).

Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Recipe?

  • It’s pecan pie—leveled up. The addition of chocolate and bourbon makes this pie even richer and more flavorful.
  • The perfect balance of crunchy & gooey. The pecans give you that signature crunch, while the filling stays soft and melt-in-your-mouth good.
  • Easy to make! No fancy techniques—just mix, pour, and bake.
  • Perfect for holidays. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, or a cozy weekend, this pie belongs on your table.
  • Pairs beautifully with ice cream. Warm pie + cold vanilla ice cream? Enough said.

Ingredient Notes:

Before we dive in, let’s talk about what makes this pie so amazing.

Pie Crust

Use store-bought or homemade—whatever makes your life easier. The real star is the filling, so don’t stress over the crust!

Sugar & Corn Syrup

These give the pie its signature gooey, rich texture. If you’re not a fan of corn syrup, you can substitute with maple syrup or honey, but the consistency will be slightly different.

Butter

Because butter makes everything better. It adds richness and helps create that silky filling.

Eggs

The binding magic! Eggs help hold the filling together while keeping it light and custard-like.

Bourbon

Adds a deep, slightly smoky warmth to balance the sweetness. Most of the alcohol bakes off, so you’re left with just the flavor—but if you want to skip it, just add a little extra vanilla.

Chocolate Chips

The secret ingredient! As the pie bakes, the chocolate melts into the filling, making every bite pure decadence.

Pecans

Crunchy, nutty, and slightly sweet, pecans are the heart of this recipe. Toasting them before adding to the pie makes the flavor even richer!

How To Make Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie?

Step 1: Prep the Crust

Preheat your oven to 325°F and place your 9-inch pie crust into a pie dish. If using homemade crust, roll it out, crimp the edges, and chill it while you prepare the filling.

Step 2: Make the Filling

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and butter. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, bourbon, vanilla, and salt. Slowly pour in the cooled sugar mixture, whisking continuously (so you don’t scramble the eggs!).

Step 3: Add Chocolate & Pecans

Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans, making sure everything is evenly combined. The chocolate will start melting into the mixture, which is exactly what you want!

Step 4: Bake the Pie

Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust and smooth it out.

Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the center is just set. The edges should be firm, but the middle should have a slight jiggle—it will firm up as it cools.

Step 5: Cool & Serve

Let the pie cool completely before slicing. For clean slices, refrigerate for a few hours before cutting. Serve it warm or cold, either way, it’s incredible!

Storage Options:

  • Fridge: Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
  • Freezer: Wrap tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.
  • To reheat: Warm slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or bake at 300°F for a few minutes.

Variations and Substitutions:

Want to make this pie your own? Here are some fun ideas:

  • Skip the bourbon? Swap it for vanilla extract or just leave it out.
  • Try a different nut? Walnuts or almonds work great too.
  • Extra chocolate? Use dark chocolate chunks for an even deeper flavor.
  • No corn syrup? Try maple syrup for a natural sweetness.
  • Gluten-Free Option? Use a gluten-free pie crust.

What to Serve with Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie?

This pie is already a showstopper, but pairing it with the right side makes it even better.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream – The cold ice cream melts over the warm pie = heavenly.
  • Whipped Cream – Light, fluffy, and balances the richness.
  • Coffee or Bourbon – A strong cup of coffee or a little extra bourbon on the side? Perfection.
  • Salted Caramel Drizzle – If you want to really indulge, add a drizzle of caramel on top.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make this pie ahead of time?

Yes! It actually tastes better the next day because the flavors deepen overnight.

Can I use a store-bought crust?

Absolutely! While homemade is great, store-bought works just fine.

Does the bourbon make it taste boozy?

Not really! Most of the alcohol bakes off, leaving just a deep, rich flavor.
