Rich and creamy Million Dollar Chicken Casserole made with shredded chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and a buttery cracker topping.
I’ve got a confession to make—this recipe wasn’t born out of some genius plan or a craving for something fancy. Nope. It came from one of those “what’s in the fridge?” moments. You know, when you’re staring at a rotisserie chicken and some random pantry items, hoping they’ll magically turn into dinner? That’s exactly how Million Dollar Chicken Casserole made its debut in my kitchen.
The first time I made it, I wasn’t even sure if it would work. But as it baked, the smell of creamy chicken and buttery crackers filled the house, and suddenly my kids were hovering around the oven like I was a Food Network star. By the time it hit the table, there wasn’t a single crumb left. My husband even called it “million-dollar good,” and the name stuck.
What I love most about this dish is how it feels like a warm hug in casserole form. It’s rich, comforting, and somehow both indulgent and simple at the same time. Plus, it’s one of those recipes that makes you look like you tried way harder than you actually did—a win in my book!

Ingredient Notes:
Here’s why every ingredient in this recipe earns its place:
- Shredded Chicken: Rotisserie chicken keeps things easy, but any cooked chicken will do.
- Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese, and Sour Cream: These create a dreamy, creamy base that’s rich without being heavy.
- Cream of Chicken Soup: Adds that extra level of comfort and ties everything together.
- Creole Seasoning: A little spice to keep things interesting. You can tone it down if needed.
- Crushed Crackers: The buttery crunch on top is a game-changer. Ritz crackers are my go-to.
- Mozzarella Cheese: Melty and gooey, it’s the perfect finishing touch.
Pro Tip: If you’re a fan of fresh herbs, a sprinkle of parsley or dill on top adds a nice pop of color and flavor.
How To Make Million Dollar Chicken Casserole?
This recipe is as straightforward as it gets. Here’s how to make it:
Step 1: Preheat the oven.
Set your oven to 350°F. It’s always good to get that preheating out of the way early!
Step 2: Mix the creamy base.
In a medium bowl, stir together the cream of chicken soup, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, Creole seasoning, onion powder, and half the garlic powder. The goal? A smooth, dreamy mixture that you’ll want to eat with a spoon (but don’t—save it for the casserole).
Step 3: Add the chicken and parsley.
Fold in the shredded chicken and parsley. Make sure every piece of chicken gets coated—it’s the star of the show, after all.
Step 4: Prep the cracker topping.
In another bowl, mix the crushed crackers with melted butter and the remaining garlic powder. This is where the magic of that crispy topping begins.
Step 5: Assemble the casserole.
Spread the chicken mixture evenly in an 11×7-inch or 9-inch square baking dish. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top, then layer on the buttery cracker topping.

Here’s how to keep your casserole fresh and tasty:
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F to keep that topping crisp.

- Make-Ahead: Assemble everything the night before and refrigerate. Bake it fresh when you’re ready to serve.
Variations and Substitutions:
Feeling adventurous? Here are some ways to make it your own:
- Add Veggies: Broccoli, peas, or spinach are great additions for extra nutrients.

How do I keep the topping from getting soggy?
Reheat the casserole in the oven, not the microwave, to keep that buttery cracker topping crispy.
