Purely comforting and one of the best slow cooker recipes I’ve made!
1–½ lbs ham hock
2 lbs great northern beans, dry
6 c. water
1 large celery stalk sliced or chopped
1 large carrot sliced or chopped
½ tsp cayenne pepper
salt to taste
½ tsp black pepper
In a large slow cooker, add all the ingredients.
Set to cook the beans on high for 4 – 5 hours. You can also cook on high for 7 – 8 hours.
Take the ham hock from the slow cooker and allow it to cool a little. Take the ham bits off and return them to the slow cooker.
Stir everything and season with salt if needed.
Serve the beans immediately with biscuits or cornbread. Enjoy!
