These gluten free, dairy free chocolate chip cookies are what I imagine the love child of a regular chocolate chip cookie and a slice of funfetti cake would taste like. Weird thought? Perhaps. But also delightful.
If you’re looking for an easy, gluten free, dairy free, chocolate chip cookies recipe for Christmas that will wow the kids and tickle your tastebuds, you found them.
I mean, after all, those New Years Resolutions will be kicking in shortly after so you might as well live it up and overdose on a little sugar before you quit cold turkey, right? Kidding, Kidding.
It’s hard enough to find gluten free cookies, let alone gluten free dairy free cookies, right? So naturally when you find a cookie that checks both those boxes you eat the entire baker’s dozen.
I have to give credit where credit is due. I stumbled upon the O.G. Cake Batter Cookies on Sally’s Baking Addiction a handful of years ago and instantly fell in love. Sadly, shortly after I was told I could no longer eat dairy or gluten, but I was determined not to have to kiss these babies goodbye.
It took a little trial and error but I’m thrilled to say the gluten-free version of these cookies are just as amazing as the original (just slightly crumblier, unless you add a little xantham gum to you recipe version).

Nothing brings out the wannabe baker in me quite like Christmas. It’s my favorite time of year to spend in the kitchen, and regardless on if I can actually eat the goodies or not (which most of the time, I’m able to adapt just like I did for this recipe), I love the way my kitchen smells after every piece of chocolate in town has been inside my oven.
I love baking up little love packages and sending them with family and friends. My son and I have done this for multiple holidays including Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, birthdays, and of course, Christmas.

While I consider this version of cookies to be dairy free, please keep in mind they are technically not dairy free chocolate chip cookies 100% because this version contains ghee.
Because ghee is technically a butter fat from cows, it’s considered dairy. However, ghee does go through a process where the lactose is removed, so a lot of people (including myself) who cannot tolerate dairy, can actually tolerate ghee.
If you are someone who needs this to be 100% dairy free, you could opt for something like a plant-based butter or coconut oil, instead, like this Country Crock Plant Based Butter. (Full disclosure: I haven’t tried it yet but fully intend to!)
Gluten Free Dairy Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, Christmas Edition
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup gluten-free all purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cup gluten-free yellow or vanilla boxed cake mix
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup ghee
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup dairy free chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup sprinkles to make these festive, opt for red and green sprinkles!
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together your flour, cake mix, salt, and baking soda. You can set this mix aside for now.
- Using a mixer, soften the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until smooth.
- Add the egg into the sugar and butter and mix well.
- Add in the vanilla and continue to mix on low-medium.
- Add in your flour mixture from the first step and mix on low speed until everything is mixed together well.
- Your final step for mixing is to add in the chocolate chips and sprinkles. Mix on low until everything has been mixed in well together.
- Cover your bowl with plastic wrap and put in the refrigerate for approximately 2 hours.
- Once your dough has been chilled, you can preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spray your cookie sheets with cooking spray, or cover with parchment paper (I typically use foil because I’m from the midwest).
- Scoop rounded balls of dough onto your sheet. I like to make my scoops higher than they are round. Be sure to leave enough space in between your scoops on the baking sheet so as they fall they won’t run into the other cookies.
- Bake for ten minutes.
- Allow to cool at least a few minutes before eating every last one.
Notes
- These cookies often do get a little crumbly. You could try adding xantham gum to help the cookies form, or you could just enjoy the ooey, gooey, crumbly goodness that are these cookies. The choice is yours.
- For this recipe you’ll need: measuring cups, baking sheets, mixing bowls, mixing spoon, hand mixer, holiday sprinkles, dairy free chocolate chips, gluten free cake mix, and a little holiday joy.
