What You Need To Make This Cake Mix Toffee Bars Recipe?
Yellow Cake Mix: This serves as a flavorful base, for the bars. It’s important to choose a high-quality mix to ensure a dense texture that complements the toffee and chocolate.
Egg: The egg plays a role in binding the ingredients giving the base its structure. If you’re considering replacing it for reasons make sure the substitute can provide the same binding quality.
Melted Butter: Adding butter brings moisture, richness, and a delicious buttery flavor to our bars. For a twist, you could try using browned butter, which adds a nutty aroma and deepens the flavor profile.
Chocolate Toffee Bits: These little morsels are the highlight of our dessert! They infuse the bars with a crunch and burst of sweetness. If you’re in a hurry or want something chopped up, toffee chocolate bars can be used as an alternative.
Sweetened Condensed Milk: Beyond being a binding agent this ingredient adds caramel-like undertones to the dessert. Make sure to pour it evenly for gooeyness throughout the bars. For those feeling adventurous drizzling some salted caramel on top of the condensed milk can add a layer of flavor.

Step 2: In a mixing bowl, blend together your yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Feel the excitement as you stir, knowing something delicious is on the horizon! Once mixed, press this mixture gently into the bottom of your baking dish.
Step 3: It’s sprinkle time! Shower those chocolate toffee bits all over the cake mix layer. Ah, the joy of chocolate and toffee coming together!
Step 4: Now, for that sweet liquid gold – pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over those toffee bits. Watch as it seeps into the crevices, promising a moist and flavorful treat.
Step 5: Pop that dish into the oven and let the magic happen for 25 to 30 minutes. The hardest part? Waiting for it to cool completely before diving in!
Tip:
To take it up a notch and make it more indulgent after the bars have cooled down you can add a layer of salted caramel on top. This not enhance the decadence of the chocolate toffee. Also introduces a delightful combination of sweetness and saltiness creating an irresistible flavor in every bite.

These bars are so easy to make and delicious. I made them for my bridge group and had to make carry out bags for everyone. They also freeze very well( what few I had left). I’ll definitely be making them again.
Can these be made in an 8X8 pan? Do you know how much longer they would need to bake?
Thank you.
Hi Deborah,
Yes, you can make these Cake Mix Toffee Bars in an 8×8 pan! Since an 8×8 pan is smaller, the batter will be thicker, so the bars will take a little longer to bake. I’d recommend checking them at the 30-minute mark and then every 5 minutes after that. They’re ready when the edges are golden brown, and the center is set but still slightly gooey.
Let me know how they turn out! 😊
Can I bake, cool, then freeze the bars for a later time without losing
The integrity of the bar?
Hi Francine,
Yes, you can absolutely bake, cool, and freeze these Cake Mix Toffee Bars without compromising their integrity! Here’s how:
Bake and Cool: After baking, let the bars cool completely to room temperature. This prevents condensation (and soggy bars) when freezing.
Cut and Wrap: Cut the bars into individual portions. Wrap each bar tightly in plastic wrap or parchment paper to maintain freshness and prevent freezer burn.
Store in an Airtight Container: Place the wrapped bars in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. You can freeze them for up to 2 months.
Thaw: When ready to enjoy, let the bars thaw at room temperature for about 1-2 hours or in the fridge overnight.
This method keeps the bars moist and flavorful, just like when freshly baked. Let me know if you give it a try! 😊
