Ground beef, Provolone cheese, bell peppers, onions, and Worcestershire sauce come together for a delicious baked Philly cheesesteak.
Do you ever have those nights where you stare into your fridge and think, “What on earth can I make with this?” That’s exactly how this Baked Philly Cheesesteak came to life. I had a pound of ground beef, some leftover bell peppers, and a block of cheese that was just starting to edge toward its “use me now or else” phase. I threw it all together with a prayer and a sprinkle of Worcestershire sauce, and let me tell you—it was magic.
The best part? My family was obsessed. Even my pickiest eater, who thinks vegetables are a personal affront, devoured it. Now it’s a go-to for those busy weeknights or when I’m craving something that feels indulgent but doesn’t require hours in the kitchen.

- Crowd-Pleaser: Perfect for family dinners or impressing guests with minimal effort.
Ingredient Notes:
Let’s chat about what makes this dish so good:
- Ground Beef: Go for lean ground beef if you want to keep it light—or a fattier mix if you’re after that rich flavor.
- Bell Peppers: Green peppers give it that classic Philly taste, but red or yellow peppers add a sweet twist.
- Onions: Thinly sliced yellow onions caramelize beautifully, balancing the savory beef.
- Provolone Cheese: The melty, slightly tangy star of the show. Feel free to experiment with mozzarella or cheddar if you’re feeling adventurous.
- Worcestershire Sauce: A little goes a long way in adding that umami depth we all love.
How To Make Baked Philly Cheesesteak?
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish so cleanup doesn’t become an Olympic sport.
Step 2: Cook the Beef and Veggies
Brown your ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. When it’s halfway done, toss in the bell peppers and onions. Cook until the veggies are tender and your kitchen smells like a food truck at lunchtime.
Step 3: Add Some Flavor
Stir in minced garlic and seasoned salt for that extra punch. Give it a quick sauté, then drain any grease—nobody wants a soggy dish.
Step 4: Layer It All Together
Spread the beef mixture in your baking dish and cover it with slices of Provolone cheese. Don’t skimp here—the cheesier, the better.

Step 5: Make the Creamy Mixture
In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this over the beef and cheese, letting it seep into every crevice.
Step 6: Bake It
Pop it in the oven for 35 to 45 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the top is golden and the center is set. Let it cool slightly before serving—if you can resist.
Storage Options:
- Refrigerate: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for best results, or the microwave if you’re in a hurry.
- Freeze: Wrap tightly and freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
Variations and Substitutions:
Feeling adventurous? Here’s how you can shake things up:
- Meat Options: Swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or even thinly sliced steak.
- Veggie Add-Ins: Mushrooms, spinach, or diced jalapeños would be amazing here.
- Cheese Choices: Mozzarella, cheddar, or even pepper jack for a spicy kick.

This was a pretty good and easy recipe. I did add mushrooms with the veggies and used mozzarella since I didn’t have provolone, but otherwise followed the recipe until serving. We like spice so I added some jalapeños, which made the meal even better for us. Thanks for sharing!
