What You Need To Make This One-Pot Hearty Lasagna Soup Recipe?
Sausage: Italian sausage is an ingredient that brings a rich and subtly spicy taste to the soup. You have the option to choose between spicy sausage depending on your preference. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a leaner version of the soup you can try options, like turkey or beef sausage.
Shallot: Shallots add a sweet onion flavor to the soup lending a touch to the dish. They are milder compared to onions. In case you don’t have shallots a small red or yellow onion can be used as a substitute.
Garlic: Garlic plays a role in this recipe by infusing it with its savory essence. It perfectly complements the ingredients. It’s recommended to use cloves instead of pre-packaged minced garlic for optimal results.
Red Pepper: The pepper not only adds vibrant color but also imparts a subtle sweetness with a hint of smokiness to the soup. If you prefer you can use bell pepper varieties like green or yellow; however red peppers provide a contrast.
Italian Herb Blend: This blend consists of herbs such as basil oregano, rosemary and thyme that infuse the soup with authentic flavors reminiscent of Italian cuisine. You have the option of using a made Italian herb blend found at the store or you can mix together individual herbs to your liking.
Reduced Sodium Chicken Stock: If you want a soup, with a stronger taste use reduced-sodium chicken stock. However, if you prefer a broth regular chicken stock can be used. Keep in mind the overall saltiness of the recipe.
Canned Diced Tomatoes: Canned diced tomatoes are a choice that consistently adds flavor to the soup. For a taste fire roasted diced tomatoes can be used. Alternatively, if you want control over sodium content opt for no salt added versions.
Canned Tomato Sauce: To give the soup richness and thickness tomato sauce is added. You have the choice, between tomato sauce or flavored varieties based on your preference.
Lasagna Noodles: For this recipe, it’s best to use lasagna noodles broken into pieces. Avoid using no-boil noodles as they won’t soften properly in the soup. Breaking them into pieces ensures even cooking and easier eating.
Kosher Salt: Kosher salt is recommended for seasoning the soup as it has grains. Is easy to sprinkle by pinching. Adjust the amount of salt according to your taste preferences. Remember that you can add later if needed.
Pepper: Lastly don’t forget about adding some pepper for a touch of flavor! Ground black pepper gives the soup a kick. You can adjust the amount to your liking for spiciness.
Ricotta Cheese: Ricotta cheese adds a slightly tangy contrast, to the soup. Depending on your preferences you can choose between full-fat or part-skim ricotta.
