Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage at room temperature
  • 2 cups biscuit baking mix
  • 1 pound sharp cheddar cheese shredded

Prepare the Oven

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.

Combine the Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork sausage and the biscuit baking mix. Using your hands, gently mix until the ingredients are well blended and a uniform mixture forms.

Incorporate the Cheese

  1. Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the sausage mixture. Continue mixing until the cheese is evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Shape the Mixture

  1. Form the mixture into small balls approximately the size of a walnut. Aim for about 30 sausage balls for even cooking. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake the Sausage Balls

  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and the sausage is thoroughly cooked.

Cool and Serve

  1. Remove the sausage balls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the traditional biscuit baking mix with a high-quality gluten-free baking mix that can be used as a 1:1 replacement. Ensure all other ingredients, particularly the sausage and cheese, are certified gluten-free to avoid cross-contamination.
