Homemade Old-Fashioned Swiss Steak

This Homemade Old-Fashioned Swiss Steak. Is a comforting, hearty dish. That brings back nostalgic flavors of home-cooked meals. With tender beef steaks. Simmered in a rich tomato and beef broth. Along with mushrooms and onions. It’s the perfect dish. For cozy family dinners. My husband and child. Absolutely adore it. Making it a staple in our home.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds round steaks or top round steaks
  • 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large yellow onion sliced
  • 2 c thinly sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 15 oz can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 c beef broth

Instructions
 

  1. Cut the steak into 4 pieces and pound lightly.
  2. Mix flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Coat the meat in this mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a large pan. Brown the meat on both sides, then set aside.
  4. Sauté onions and mushrooms in the same pan until golden.
  5. Return the meat to the pan, add tomatoes and beef broth.
  6. Cover and simmer on low for 1 hour until the meat is tender.
  7. Serve over rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes
