Ingredients

  • 4 green tomatoes large
  • 2 eggs large
  • ½ c. milk
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • ½ c. cornmeal
  • ½ c. bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp coarse kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  1. Cut the tomatoes into slices that're approximately 1/2 inch thick. Next coat the tomato slices, in a mixture of flour, egg and breadcrumbs.
  2. In a skillet heat vegetable oil to a temperature of 375°F (190°C).
  3. Place the tomato slices into the oil and fry them until they turn a golden brown color, on both sides.
  4. Once fried to perfection remove the tomato slices from the skillet. Allow them to drain on paper towels. Serve them while still hot and savor their deliciousness!

Instructions for Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. Slice the green tomatoes into ½-inch thick rounds.Pat them dry with a piece of paper. Towel to remove excess moisture (this helps them crisp up better!).
  2. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with whisked eggs and milk, and one with a mixture of cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dip each tomato slice into the flour, coating both sides.
  4. Dip the floured slice into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. Press the slice into the breadcrumb mixture, covering it completely. Repeat with all tomato slices.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking. And then place the coated tomato slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  8. Lightly spray the tops of the tomato slices with cooking spray for extra crispiness.
  9. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Remove from the air fryer and let them rest for a minute before serving. Enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauce!
