Amish Noodle Recipe

Total Time 40 minutes
This traditional Amish Noodle Recipe is a simple, buttery dish made with egg noodles, chicken broth, and a touch of seasoning. It’s a comforting side dish that pairs beautifully with roasted meats and hearty meals, perfect for family dinners.
6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 2 14-ounce cans chicken broth
  • 12 ounces egg noodles

Instructions

Brown the Butter

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Allow it to cook until it becomes slightly golden and develops a rich, nutty aroma, which enhances the depth of flavor in the dish.

Add the Broth and Bouillon Cube

  1. Pour the chicken broth into the pan and add the bouillon cube. Stir well to dissolve the bouillon, then bring the mixture to a rolling boil. This step infuses the liquid with a savory depth that will be absorbed by the noodles.

Cook the Noodles

  1. Once the broth is boiling, add the egg noodles, ensuring they are fully submerged in the liquid. Stir to distribute them evenly, then bring the broth to a second boil.

Let the Noodles Absorb the Flavor

  1. Once the second boil is reached, cover the pot and turn off the heat. Leave the pot undisturbed on the burner for 30 minutes, allowing the noodles to absorb the broth fully and develop a rich, buttery texture. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Serve and Enjoy

  1. After 30 minutes, stir the noodles one final time. By this point, they should have absorbed most of the liquid, leaving behind tender, flavorful noodles. Serve immediately as a side dish alongside your favorite main course.

Notes

To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the egg noodles with a gluten-free pasta alternative, such as rice noodles or chickpea pasta. Additionally, ensure that the chicken bouillon cube and broth are certified gluten-free to avoid cross-contamination.
