You know those recipes that just feel like summer? The ones that remind you of long, warm afternoons, a messy kitchen, and that first bite of something fresh and sweet? These peach fritters are exactly that.

Growing up, my summers were all about fresh fruit—strawberries straight from the vine, watermelon slices dripping down my arms, and of course, peaches. Juicy, sticky, so sweet they practically melt in your mouth peaches. And my absolute favorite way to enjoy them? Fried into golden, crispy, sugar-dusted fritters.

I first had a peach fritter at a roadside stand during a trip through Georgia. You know the kind of place—no-frills, just a hand-painted sign, the smell of fried dough wafting through the air, and a sweet old lady behind the counter who clearly knew what she was doing. I took one bite and—wow. Crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, with big chunks of fresh peach in every bite. I knew I had to recreate them at home.

After a few attempts (some better than others—let’s not talk about the batch that turned into peach pancake blobs), I finally landed on the perfect balance. These Fresh Peach Fritters are light and crispy, packed with juicy peaches, and just the right amount of sweet. And best of all? They’re ridiculously easy to make.

So grab some peaches and let’s get frying!

Ingredient Notes:

Here’s a quick rundown of the ingredients and why they work their magic:

  • All-Purpose Flour (1 cup) – Gives the fritters structure and keeps them light and fluffy.
  • Salt (1 teaspoon) – Balances out the sweetness and enhances the flavors.
  • Baking Powder (1 teaspoon) – Helps the batter puff up beautifully when fried.
  • Granulated Sugar (2 tablespoons) – Just enough to bring out the natural sweetness of the peaches.
  • Cinnamon (½ teaspoon) – Because peach + cinnamon = perfection.
  • Eggs (2 large) – Binds the batter together while keeping it light.
  • Milk (⅓ cup) – Adds moisture and makes the batter smooth.
  • Melted Butter (1 tablespoon) – A little richness goes a long way.
  • Fresh Peaches (1¼ cups, diced) – The star of the show! Use ripe, juicy peaches for the best flavor.
  • Granulated Sugar (for coating, optional) – A simple but classic way to finish them.
  • Powdered Sugar & Milk (for glaze, optional) – If you want that bakery-style drizzle.

How To Make Fresh Peach Fritters?

Step 1: Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and melted butter until smooth. Slowly add the wet ingredients into the dry, stirring just until combined.

Step 2: Fold in the Peaches

Gently fold the diced peaches into the batter. Be careful not to overmix—we want peach chunks in every bite!

Step 3: Heat the Oil

Pour about 2 inches of oil into a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet and heat to 375°F (190°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, drop a little batter into the oil—if it sizzles and floats, you’re good to go.

Step 4: Fry the Fritters

Using a ¼ to ½ cup scoop, carefully drop the batter into the hot oil. Don’t overcrowd the pan—fry in small batches! Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until the fritters are golden brown and crispy.

Step 5: Drain & Coat

Transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Then, while they’re still warm:

  • Roll them in granulated sugar for a classic crunchy coating, OR
  • Drizzle with a powdered sugar glaze for an extra indulgent touch.

Step 6: Serve & Enjoy!

These are best served fresh—warm, crispy, and absolutely delicious.

Storage Options:

  • Room Temperature: Best eaten fresh, but you can store them in an airtight container for 1 day.
  • Refrigerator: Store in the fridge for up to 3 days, but reheat in the oven to get the crispiness back.
  • Freezer: Freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) until warm and crisp again.

Variations and Substitutions:

Want to make these your own? Try one of these twists:

  • Extra cinnamon-y – Add an extra ½ teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter.
  • Swap out the peaches – Try apples, bananas, or blueberries instead!
  • Add nuts – Chopped pecans or walnuts add a great crunch.
  • Flavored glaze – Mix honey, maple syrup, or vanilla extract into the powdered sugar glaze.
  • Dairy-free option – Use almond milk or coconut milk instead of regular milk.

What to Serve with Fresh Peach Fritters?

These fritters are fantastic on their own, but if you want to level up, try pairing them with:

  • A hot cup of coffee or chai tea – the warm spices complement the peaches beautifully.
  • Vanilla ice cream – Because warm fritters + cold ice cream = magic.
  • Whipped cream – Light, fluffy, and perfect for dipping.
  • Caramel sauce – A drizzle of caramel makes these next-level delicious.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use canned or frozen peaches?
Yes! If using canned peaches, drain them well. If using frozen, thaw and pat dry before adding to the batter.

How do I keep the fritters from getting greasy?
Make sure the oil is hot enough (375°F) and avoid overcrowding the pan.

Can I bake these instead of frying?
You can, but they won’t be as crispy! Bake at 375°F for 15-18 minutes and brush with butter for extra flavor.
