If you’re wondering if it’s possible to eat gluten free in Disney World, it totally is! Gluten free dining in Disney is completely possible, especially if you take the time to do a little planning before your trip. Luckily, this post can help. Keep reading!

If you’ve ever been to Walt Disney World you know there are many wonderful restaurants and food experiences.

But sometimes, the sheer volume of options can be intimidating. Add in a specialty diet like gluten free, dairy free, or any other allergy issues and it can honestly feel overwhelming. I’m here to help you and share some of my favorite eats!

As someone who frequents the Disney parks in Orlando, I always loved eating a variety of new foods – especially the snacks!

This was never an issue until after I hit my 30s; as growing up I never experienced issues with food allergies. I
unfortunately grew into some allergies and later realized I had more than a few intolerances.

Please note: My severe allergy foods are almond, black cherry, and mushrooms. I also have intolerances to gluten, dairy, spinach, and certain raw fruits. Everything I share will be free from these items listed.

Sit Down Restaurants with Gluten Free Options

When I first discovered this and went back to Walt Disney World, I was only comfortable with sit down restaurants where I could speak with a server or chef. It made me feel more comfortable knowing that the chef would personally prepare my meal to make sure I was served everything correctly.

I have had many wonderful experiences as they will fully accommodate you but here are a few of my favorites!

Story Book Dining at Artist’s Point with Snow White

This is a really fun character meal featuring Snow White, the Evil Queen, Dopey, and Grumpy.

It is a three-course meal where you share appetizers and desserts. My appetizers and desserts were especially made for me to fit my needs and were delicious!

You get to pick your favorite entree and mine did not disappoint. I ordered the slow braised pork shank.

The Garden Grill Restaurant

Another awesome character meal in Epcot that features Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale.

This meal is served family style and called the Harvest Feast. It features garden salad, sliced turkey, mac and cheese, herb and leak stuffing, grilled beef, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and strawberry shortcake.

I of course had to skip things like the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, but I was given a rice pilaf instead. I was able to have my own version of the strawberry shortcake. No picture taken as that’s how fast I ate it!

This restaurant is served family style currently but is usually a buffet.

There are lots of different meats, seafood, and sides to choose from. I love seafood so this is the perfect spot for me to indulge.

When I spoke with the chef this time we decided to do fish, shrimp, mussels, and corn on the cob. I was able to get Earth Balance non-dairy butter as an enhancement instead of regular butter.

My favorite part here is the desserts. I can’t even believe how many options I had accommodating all of
my allergies!

Chef Mickey’s

This is one of the most popular character dining spots at Walt Disney World. It has your original characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. I like to call them the Fab 5!

Breakfast is one of my favorite meals of the day so I love a good buffet. This is also currently being served family style and it certainly worked to my advantage.

Chef Eric came out to talk with me and find out what I love to eat! One thing I have the hardest time finding outside of Walt Disney World is donuts I can eat. But the amazing thing is they make their own there that are gluten free as well as free of many other allergens.

He made sure I had that including my all time favorite Mickey Waffles.

Of course, dessert couldn’t be skipped and I was given an entire plate of that as well. It was almost too beautiful to eat. Don’t worry, I did though, and loved every bite of it! I even took a box of donuts home!

Eating Gluten Free at Walt Disney World: Quick Service Restaurants

In the beginning, sit down restaurants were where I felt the most comfortable eating. Thankfully I’ve learned to navigate things better and have discovered there are many foods I can have that fit my needs.

I don’t have as many photos of my quick service foods as I’m usually more on the go.

My favorite places to eat quick service is Magic Kingdom at Columbia Harbor House, or Pinocchio Village Haus, because I can order gluten free chicken tenders and fries.

At Hollywood Studios, ABC Commissary has a really nice greek salad that you can add chicken on top. When I’m at Animal Kingdom, I love to go to Flame Tree BBQ and order the pulled pork sandwich with a gluten free bun. At Epcot I will order the Texas beef brisket sandwich from Regal Eagle Smokehouse.

Gluten Free Snacks

The snacks at Walt Disney World are always rotating, but there are a few constants that you can look for that are gluten and dairy free. Two real fan favorites are Dole Whip and popcorn! I certainly have been known to indulge in these snacks a time or three.

Popcorn is my go-to when I’m in between meals and Dole Whip is perfect on a hot day when everyone else is eating ice cream.

It’s amazing how many options are available to you when eating gluten free!

Honestly this blog post could be broken into a larger series. Walt Disney World is as accommodating as can be with allergy friendly menus even when you mobile order.

If you’re ever in doubt, speak to a cast member so they can direct you to the right chef or manager. I hope that it helps you see that Walt Disney World is full of gluten free options as well as other allergy friendly meals, and it really is the most magical place on earth!

  1. Great tips and advice. My husband is gluten free and we plan to visit Disney sometime in the next few years with our girls. This was a concern of mine. Great to know they have so many options!
