Ingredients

For the Brownie Base:

  • 1 box brownie mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup water

For the Middle Layer:

  • 1 jar marshmallow cream Jet-Puff or similar

For the Top Layer:

  • 1 cup creamy or chunky peanut butter
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3 cups Rice Krispies cereal Cocoa Krispies preferred for extra chocolate flavor

Instructions

Prepare the pan and brownies

  1. Preheat the oven according to the brownie mix directions. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Prepare the brownie batter as instructed on the package using the eggs, oil, and water. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake as directed.

Cool the brownies

  1. Remove the baked brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan before proceeding. Cooling ensures the marshmallow layer does not melt.

Add the marshmallow layer

  1. Once the brownies are fully cooled, spread the marshmallow cream evenly across the surface. Use a spatula for smooth, even coverage.

Prepare the chocolate-peanut butter mixture

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the peanut butter and chocolate chips. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is melted and smooth.

Incorporate the Rice Krispies

  1. Stir the Rice Krispies cereal into the melted chocolate-peanut butter mixture until evenly coated.

Top the brownies

  1. Spread the cereal mixture carefully over the marshmallow cream layer. Use gentle pressure to ensure the topping is evenly distributed without disturbing the marshmallow layer beneath.

Chill and serve

  1. Cover the pan and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the layers to set. Once firm, cut into 24–36 squares, depending on desired size, and serve chilled.

Notes

To prepare this dessert gluten-free, substitute the boxed brownie mix with a certified gluten-free brownie mix. Additionally, replace standard Rice Krispies cereal with a gluten-free puffed rice cereal, as traditional Rice Krispies contain malt flavoring derived from barley.
