Ingredients

For the Honey Cinnamon Butter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup confectioner’s sugar
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Rolls

  • 1 cup whole milk warmed to at least 80°F (27°C)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter melted

Instructions

Preheat and prepare yeast mixture

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk, honey, and active dry yeast. Stir until blended and set aside until slightly foamy.

Combine dough ingredients

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour, egg, and melted butter. Pour in the prepared yeast mixture and mix until the ingredients are well incorporated.

Add salt and knead

  1. Add the salt and continue mixing until a dough forms. Knead for approximately 4 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

First rise

  1. Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and allow it to rise in a warm location for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the rolls

  1. Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Roll to a thickness of approximately 1 inch, then cut into evenly sized squares.

Second rise

  1. Arrange the dough squares on a greased baking sheet. Cover loosely and let rise for an additional 20 minutes in a warm location.

Bake

  1. Bake the rolls for 14–16 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

Prepare the honey cinnamon butter

  1. While the rolls are baking, combine the softened butter, confectioner’s sugar, honey, and ground cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Serve

  1. Brush the baked rolls with melted butter, if desired. Serve warm with the prepared honey cinnamon butter.

Notes

Substitute the all-purpose flour with a high-quality gluten-free flour blend formulated for yeast breads. Ensure all other ingredients, particularly the yeast and confectioner’s sugar, are certified gluten-free. Additional binding agents such as xanthan gum may be necessary depending on the flour blend used.
