Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes
These Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes are such a treat—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with this incredible mix of flavors. They’re a perfect blend of sweetness from the brown sugar, that warm smoky flavor from the paprika, and just the right amount of heat from the cayenne. It’s the kind of side dish that’s as good on its own as it is paired with a main course. And here’s the best part: they’re so easy to make! Just toss the sweet potato cubes in olive oil and spices, spread them out on a baking sheet, and let the oven do the work. You’ll end up with caramelized edges that are irresistibly good. Trust me, everyone will keep going back for more, even if they’re just sneaking pieces off the tray!
4 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes peeled and cut into cubes
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Grab a big mixing bowl and throw in the sweet potato cubes. Drizzle some olive oil over them and give it all a good toss to coat them nicely. Sprinkle in the paprika, brown sugar, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, poultry seasoning, chili powder, and a pinch of cayenne. Give everything a good toss so that each piece is nicely coated in that sweet and spicy seasoning mix.
  3. Lay the seasoned sweet potatoes out on a baking sheet, making sure they’re in a single layer so they cook up nice and crispy.
  4. Pop them in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Take them out, flip them over with a spatula to make sure they cook evenly, and then slide them back into the oven for another 10 to 15 minutes. They’re done when they’re golden brown on the edges and tender in the center. Enjoy while warm!

Notes

These Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes are naturally gluten-free, which is always a bonus! But here’s a little tip—double-check any pre-mixed spices or seasoning packets you might be using, as some brands add fillers that contain gluten. To be on the safe side, use individual spices or make your own simple blend with paprika, garlic powder, and a pinch of cayenne. This way, you can keep all that delicious flavor while making sure everyone can dig in worry-free.
