Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 1/2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 c beef or vegetable broth
  • 3/4 c ketchup
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/4 c cheddar cheese shredded

Instructions
 

  1. Cook the Beef: Brown ground beef and onion in a large pot. Add garlic, flour, brown sugar, salt, pepper, cumin, and cayenne. Stir and cook until the beef is fully browned.
  2. Simmer: Add broth, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Mix in 1/2 c cheese.
  3. Broil: Transfer to baking dish, top with remaining cheese, and broil until golden brown.
  4. Serve: Relish hot with toasted bread or crackers.
