Servings

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter , softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup chocolate chips milk chocolate or semi-sweet
  • 1 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

Instructions

Prepare baking sheets:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Combine dry ingredients:

  1. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a medium-sized bowl. Set aside.

Cream butter and sugars:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Continue mixing until fully incorporated.

Form the dough:

  1. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candies.

Chill dough:

  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes. This helps prevent the cookies from spreading excessively during baking.

Shape cookies:

  1. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out 1–2 tablespoons of dough per cookie. Place dough balls on prepared baking sheets, leaving at least 2 inches of space between them.

Bake:

  1. Bake for 12–17 minutes, adjusting time based on cookie size. Cookies should be lightly golden at the edges while remaining slightly soft in the center.

Cool and serve:

  1. Allow cookies to rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, store in an airtight container.
