6 Servings

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • ¾ lb lean ground beef 85/15
  • ¾ lb ground pork
  • 1 small onion grated
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ c panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ c whole milk
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ¼ c all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ c beef broth low sodium
  • ¾ c heavy cream
  • 1 ½ tsp soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley optional

Instructions

  1. Mix Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, grated onion, minced garlic, panko breadcrumbs, egg, milk, and spices. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form Meatballs: Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form the mixture into 1 to 1½-inch meatballs. Place them on a tray and chill in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes to firm up.
  3. Cook Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until evenly browned on all sides, about 5-6 minutes per batch. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Make Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about a minute until it's lightly browned and bubbly. Gradually whisk in the beef broth to avoid lumps, then stir in the heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Bring the mixture to a simmer and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Let them simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the meatballs are fully cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Serve: Serve the meatballs and sauce over cooked egg noodles or rice, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
