Instructions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
Cook the Bacon
In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook the bacon pieces until the fat is rendered and the bacon is lightly browned. This process should take approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
Prepare the Casserole Dish
In a large baking or casserole dish, combine the rinsed and drained great northern beans, chopped onion, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, ketchup, cooked bacon, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.
Bake the Beans
Cover the baking dish with a lid or aluminum foil. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 2 hours. After 2 hours, remove the lid or foil and continue baking uncovered for an additional 30 minutes. The beans should be thickened and slightly caramelized on top.
Serve
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a side dish to complement a variety of main courses.
