Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme minced
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 sweet rolls
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 14 oz sliced deli roast beef
  • 1/2 c unsalted butter melted
  • 1 & 1/2 tbsp dried onion soup mix
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 c water
  • Fresh chopped parsley optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by melting 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet, over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the onions until they turn brown, which usually takes about 12 to 15 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the thyme, salt and pepper into the mixture. Once combined remove the skillet from heat.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  5. Take the rolls. Slice them in half. Then place the halves into an 11×7 dish.
  6. Create layers with half of the cheese followed by roast beef, onions, and remaining cheese and finally top it off with the roll tops.
  7. Next, combine half a cup of melted butter with onion soup mix. Brush this mixture onto the rolls evenly.
  8. Cover the dish with foil. Bake it for 25 minutes. Afterward, remove the foil. Continue baking for 5 minutes until golden brown, on top.
  9. Follow package instructions to prepare au jus using 3 cups of water.
  10. Serve these sliders alongside au jus for dipping purposes. Optionally you can garnish them with parsley.
