We combine beef, fragrant onions and a medley of herbs to create a mouthwatering delight. The dish is coated in a sauce infused with tomato puree and a hint of Marmite (or Worcestershire Sauce) which adds depth and satisfaction to every bite. To amp up the flavors we add a mix of vegetables making this meal perfect, for busy weeknights as it only takes 40 minutes to prepare. Pair it with mashed potatoes or crispy roasties for a quick yet heartwarming family favorite that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 500 g Minced Beef use lean 5% fat
  • 1 Onion peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 Garlic cloves peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tsp Dried Italian Herbs or use dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp. Plain Flour
  • 450 ml Beef Stock
  • 3 tbsp. Tomato Puree
  • 1 tsp Marmite or use a splash of Worcestershire Sauce or Vegemite
  • 200 g Frozen Mixed Vegetables
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper

Instructions
 

  1. Start by heating up a shallow casserole dish and adding the olive oil. Saute the chopped onions and garlic until they become soft and release their fragrance.
  2. Sprinkle, in the dried herbs (or thyme) to infuse the aromatics. Then increase the heat. Add the beef, using a wooden spoon to break it apart. Continue stirring until the meat changes color and browns evenly.
  3. Next, incorporate the flour into the mixture. Cook for approximately one minute. Follow this by adding tomato puree, beef stock and Marmite (or an alternative if preferred). Let the mixture simmer gently over low heat for 15 minutes occasionally giving it a stir.
  4. Now it's time to introduce the vegetables. Season your dish, with salt and black pepper according to your taste preferences. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes. Until the vegetables are tender and have absorbed all those rich sauce flavors.
  5. Lastly, serve your delicious Easy Onion Savory Mince piping hot alongside either roast potatoes or creamy mashed potatoes. Your family and friends will truly relish every bite!

Notes

To create a gluten-free version of this recipe just replace the regular flour with a blend of gluten-free flours. Also make sure that the beef stock and Worcestershire Sauce (or Marmite) you use are gluten-free as well.
