Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 ½ tsps Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 pounds white button mushrooms stems trimmed
  • 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  1. Mix the panko breadcrumbs, Old Bay seasoning, marjoram, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Pour the buttermilk into another bowl.
  2. Clean and dry the mushrooms. Place them in a bag with the flour and shake to coat.
  3. Dip the flour-coated mushrooms in buttermilk, then roll them in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a pot to 375°F. Fry the mushrooms in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

To make this recipe gluten-free. Simply replace the all-purpose flour. With a gluten-free flour blend. And use gluten-free panko breadcrumbs. Ensure that all other ingredients. Such as the Old Bay seasoning and buttermilk. Are gluten-free. Follow the same steps. For preparation and frying. And you'll have a delicious gluten-free version of these crispy fried mushrooms.
