Cook Time 1 hour
Classic Grape-Nuts Bread is like a warm hug in a slice—soft, nutty, and just a hint of sweetness. Made with Grape-Nuts cereal, milk, and a handful of simple ingredients, it has this wonderful texture that’s both hearty and tender. Plus, as it bakes, your kitchen fills with the most comforting, homey smell. You can enjoy it plain, but if you toast a slice and add a little butter or jam, it’s next-level good. It’s the type of bread that carries back old memories or creates new ones, excellent for breakfast, a snack, or whenever you require a wee bit of cozy in your day.
Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c milk
  • 2/3 c Grape-Nuts cereal
  • 2 c sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 c granulated sugar
  • 1 egg well-beaten
  • 3 tbsp melted butter or shortening

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, mix together the milk and Grape-Nuts cereal. Pop it in the microwave for about a minute, give it a good stir, and let it cool while you get the rest of the ingredients ready.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until everything is well combined. Now, add in the cooled cereal mixture, the beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until it all comes together into a smooth batter.
  3. Pour the batter into a 9x5-inch loaf pan lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Bake for about 55-60 minutes, or until you can stick a knife into the center and it comes out clean. Once baked, let the bread cool for at least an hour before slicing and serving.
  4. For an extra treat, try toasting a slice and spreading a little butter or jam on top—delicious!

Notes

To make this Classic Grape-Nuts Bread gluten-free, swap out the all-purpose flour for a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend that’s meant for baking. Make sure the Grape-Nuts cereal you’re using is labeled gluten-free, as some versions contain gluten. If you can’t find a gluten-free Grape-Nuts, try using a similar nutty, crunchy cereal that’s certified gluten-free. With these small adjustments, you’ll have the same warm, cozy loaf everyone can enjoy, gluten-free and full of flavor!
