Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Texas toast or any thick-cut bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 2 oz shredded cheddar cheese approximately ½ cup
  • 2 tablespoons raspberry preserves optional

Instructions

Preheat the cooking appliance:

  1. If using a conventional oven, preheat to 400°F (204°C). For an air fryer, set it to 370°F (188°C). While the appliance heats, prepare the bread.

Butter the bread slices:

  1. Spread a generous layer of softened unsalted butter on both sides of each slice of bread. Ensure the butter is evenly distributed to promote even toasting.

Add the cheese:

  1. Sprinkle approximately ¼ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of each slice of bread. You may use more or less depending on your preference.

Cook the cheese toast:

  1. For oven preparation: Place the slices on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the edges of the toast are golden brown.
  2. For air fryer preparation: Place the slices in the air fryer basket and cook for approximately 4 minutes, checking for doneness around the 3-minute mark. The cheese should be melted and slightly bubbling.

Optional finishing touch:

  1. If desired, remove the toast from the oven or air fryer and immediately spread 1 tablespoon of raspberry preserves on top of each slice. Serve warm.

Notes

To make this cheese toast gluten free, simply substitute the Texas toast with a certified gluten-free bread of similar thickness and texture. All other ingredients, including unsalted butter, cheddar cheese, and raspberry preserves, are naturally gluten free, but it is always recommended to verify product labels for cross-contamination risks.
