Ingredients

  • 1 1 lb box phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 6 oz brie cheese thinly sliced
  • 1 –2 apples thinly sliced
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup walnuts chopped

Instructions
 

Prepare the oven and pan:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Arrange the phyllo dough:

  1. Working with two sheets at a time, crinkle the phyllo into accordion-style folds and place them into the prepared baking dish. Repeat with remaining sheets until the dish is filled. Lightly fluff the folds for even spacing.

Initial bake:

  1. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

Add butter:

  1. Remove from the oven and drizzle melted butter evenly over the phyllo folds. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

Prepare custard mixture:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, thyme, garlic powder, and salt until smooth. A bowl with a pour spout is ideal.

Insert apples and brie:

  1. Remove the baking dish from the oven and carefully tuck apple slices and brie into the folds of the phyllo dough.

Add custard:

  1. Pour the prepared milk mixture evenly over the top, allowing it to soak into the folds.

Final bake:

  1. Return to the oven and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and set.

Finish and serve:

  1. Drizzle with honey and garnish with chopped walnuts. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into portions. Serve warm.
