Each mouthful is a moment of joy. Whether shared with loved ones. Or savored in a peaceful sunlit corner.

Ingredients

Scale

2 and 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast

1/2 c warm water (105115 F)

3/4 c warm milk

1/2 c melted butter plus 4 tbsp for brushing on the bread

1/3 c sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 egg yolks from large eggs

3 and 1/2 – 4 c all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Powdered sugar for dusting the bread

Instructions

Combine the yeast with water in a bowl. And wait for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Add milk half a cup of butter, sugar, salt, egg yolks, and vanilla extract, to the yeast mixture. Stir well until everything is mixed together.

Slowly incorporate flour into the wet ingredients until a dough forms. You may not need to use all of the flour. Stir until it becomes a mass.

Cover the bowl with a towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm spot for about 1.5 hours. Or until it doubles in size.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface into an 18×14-inch rectangle. Brush with butter and cut into 1-inch strips. And then roll each strip into a coil shape.

Arrange the coiled pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them. Let them rise for another hour.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the bread for 12 to 18 minutes. Until it turns lightly brown. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Sprinkle some sugar on top before enjoying your baked Mallorca Bread!

Notes

To turn this Bread into a gluten-free treat. Embrace the world of gluten-free baking with enthusiasm and a sprinkle of imagination. Substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend specially crafted for baking. Opt for a blend that contains xanthan gum. An ingredient that replicates the elasticity of gluten. Ensuring your bread rises beautifully and stays intact without falling. Keep in mind that gluten-free flours absorb liquids differently. So begin with the lower end of the flour measurement. And adjust as necessary. To achieve the ideal dough texture. Embark on this journey with a sense of curiosity. And an eager heart to create a gluten-free rendition of Mallorca Bread. That is just as delightful as the original.
