Description
Fried Potatoes with Smoked Sausage is a traditional southern dish that can be tailored to your family’s preferences. Here are the simple instructions for making fried potatoes, sausage, and onions.
Ingredients
4 tbsp butter (1/2 stick)
14 oz. smoked sausage, diced
4 – 5 potatoes
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 – 2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 onions diced
Instructions
Potatoes should be washed, peeled, and diced. Cover with 1 tsp salt and cold water. Allow to sit for 30 minutes. (optional.) Drain thoroughly.
In a skillet or cast-iron pan, melt the butter.
To the skillet once the butter has melted, add the drained potatoes, diced sausage, diced onions, and garlic. Saute over medium heat until completely cooked and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
To taste, season with seasoned salt and black pepper.
Notes
Make sure not to burn the onions and garlic and keep an eye on the temperature of the pan.
Cover the pan for a bit while cooking to speed up the cooking time. Covering the pan helps to steam the potatoes, making sure to stir often.
To help remove the starch from the potatoes, soak them in water. This will also ensure that the potatoes will evenly cook. Or omit this step if short of time.
If desired, you can slice the potatoes instead of dicing them.
You can use olive oil instead of butter.
Do not skip the onions and garlic.
You can swap seasoned salt with regular salt.
Make this recipe your own and feel free to add optional ingredients like corn, peppers, cabbage, and/or green beans.
