Description

This Deluxe Stromboli is a hearty, Italian-inspired dish. That’s perfect for dinner. Or a party. Loaded with savory sausage. A trio of flavorful cured meats, fresh veggies, and a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. All wrapped in golden, crispy pizza dough. It’s easy to make. Satisfying, and sure to impress. Anyone who takes a bite. The rich flavors of the meats. Combined with the freshness of the vegetables. And the melty cheese. Create a delightful harmony. That’s simply irresistible.

1/4 lb mild Italian sausage (hot can also be used)

1/2 green bell pepper, sliced into roughly 1-inch long pieces

1/2 yellow onion, sliced into roughly 1-inch long pieces

1 lb frozen pizza dough, thawed

1/2 c pizza sauce

1 c shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 c grated Parmesan cheese

10 large slices pepperoni

6 slices Genoa salami

6 slices hot capicola ham

4 oz very thinly sliced mushrooms, uncooked

1/4 c sliced green olives

pinch red pepper flakes

1 egg + splash of water, beaten

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp dried Italian seasoning

1/4 c freshly grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425Β°F. Line a baking sheet with foil. And spray it with nonstick cooking spray.

Brown the sausage in a skillet, then set aside. Cook the bell pepper and onion. In the same skillet for 3 minutes.

Roll out the pizza dough into a 10×15″ rectangle. Spread pizza sauce, leaving a 1.5” border. Add half the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Then layer with pepperoni, salami, capicola, mushrooms, sausage, onion, pepper, and olives. Top with remaining cheeses.

Beat the egg with water, and brush over the dough edges.

Roll up the dough into a log. Pinch sides to seal. If sticky, dust hands with flour.

Transfer to the baking sheet. Brush with remaining egg wash. Sprinkle garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan cheese. Cut 2-inch slits on top.

Bake for 25 minutes or until the center is 200Β°F. Let rest for 5-10 minutes, then slice. And serve with extra sauce.

Notes

To make this Deluxe Stromboli gluten-free. Substitute the regular pizza dough. With a gluten-free pizza dough. Many grocery stores now carry gluten-free options. That bakes up beautifully. Ensure all your meats. Especially the Italian sausage and deli meats. Are certified gluten-free. As some processed meats may contain gluten. Additionally, check your pizza sauce and any seasonings.
